The Results Day Rollercoaster

Results day is a nerve-wracking experience for everyone. For me, it was a whirlwind of emotions. My heart was set on going to a Vet School for it didn’t matter which one, and I'd been working tirelessly for those coveted AAA grades. When I saw my results, I had mixed feelings—I got ABB, with my only A in Chemistry. I thought my dreams were shattered.

From Despair to Elation

But then came the unexpected twist—despite not hitting the AAA mark, I was still accepted into Nottingham Vet School for the 5-year course, no preliminary year needed. The sense of relief and joy I felt at that moment was indescribable. It showed me that your grades are important, but they aren't everything.

Securing Funding and Accommodation

With the acceptance letter in my hand, the next big hurdle was funding and finding accommodation. I quickly realized how crucial it was to sort out student finance as soon as possible. Make sure you apply early to avoid any last-minute stress as I would later find out. Finding a place to live was the next step. Having spent 3 years at university I cannot recommend university-provided accommodation enough for first-year students as it offers a sense of community and makes it easier to make friends.

Advice for Future Students

If there's one thing I learned, it's that your worth isn't determined by grades alone. Do your best and remember that universities also look at your passion, dedication, and potential. I like to think that I was accepted on behalf of the interview I gave. Focus on your strengths, seek advice when needed, and don't get disheartened by set-backs. There's more to you than just your A-level results, and plenty of pathways to achieve your dreams.
